日本三大桜に数えられる三春滝桜は、大正11年10月12日に、桜の木としては初めて国の天然記念物に指定された名木です。皇居宮殿の正殿松の間を杉戸絵「櫻」（橋本明治画伯）や、赤坂サカス赤坂Bizタワー壁画「四季樹木図」（千住博画伯）が、滝桜をモデルに描かれたことでも知られています。

開花期には四方に伸びた枝から、薄紅色の小さな花を無数に咲かせ、その様はまさに流れ落ちる滝のように見えることから「滝桜」と呼ばれるようになったとも言われています。

Miharu Takizakura, one of the three great cherry blossoms of Japan, is a famous tree that was the first cherry tree to be declared a national natural monument on October 12, 1922. Representations of the cherry blossom can be seen in the following famous places: Sugito-e, a painting on the cedar door "Sakura (Cherry)" (by a great painter, Meiji Hashimoto), in the Seiden-Matsu-no-Ma (State Room) of the Imperial Palace, and the mural "Four Seasons Tree Figure" (by a great painter, Hiroshi Senju) in the Akasaka Sacas akasaka Biz Tower.

It is said that during the flowering season, countless small pale pink flowers bloom on the branches, stretching in all directions, and it is said that they were named "Takizakura" because they look exactly like a waterfall.
